26th District reps. hope $600,000 in additional funding for South Kitsap School District remains in final supplemental operating budget

The supplemental operating budget proposal that passed the Washington State House of Representatives on February 28 included $600,000 in additional funding for the South Kitsap School District. The funding would be an additional Local Effort Assistance (LEA) payment.

Reps. Jesse Young and Michelle Caldier worked to help secure the additional funding through an amendment and they're hopeful it remains in the final supplemental operating budget that will be released this week.

“My daughter graduated from South Kitsap High School. This funding would help with some of the inequity gaps we have with certain school districts in our state,” said Caldier, R-Port Orchard.

“This would be great news for the South Kitsap School District,” said Young, R-Gig Harbor. “The district has been a great example of leadership in career and technical education. I've been pushing for the state to reward their efforts for a while. This recognition would be very fitting.”

The 2020 legislative session is scheduled to end March 12.
